Woman jumping on the salar. The Salinas Grandes de Jujuy and Salta in Argentina are a small salar or salt desert located on the high plateau of the provinces of Jujuy and Salta. The salar in fact extends the Laguna de Guayatayoc to the southwest. Its area is more or less 12,000 ha, or 120 km2. The site is approximately 3,350 m above sea level.
It is an expanse of continental salt from the seismic activity of the surrounding volcanoes in the form of a hard crust, 30 centimeters thick.
