Porto Velho city centre

Porto Velho, which is strategically located at the banks of the Madeira river on its limits of navigable waterways, now has to deal with the effects of a hydroelectric power plant built on the rocks a couple of kilometres upstream. It is one of the most recent projects, and already in operation. With the airport located within the city limits, one can see the city centre, the Madeira river and the Jirau hydroelectric power plant on a clear day.
