Porto Velho – Logistics Hub on the Madeira river
Porto Velho, which was founded due to its strategic location as the last navigable point of the Madeira River in the direction from the Atlantic Ocean, it has in recent years experienced an economic boom. The grain exporting hub, where the commodity is transhipped from road to river, is experiencing a large expansion in the last few years, as the ports in southern Brazil are over congested. Simultaneously, two large hydroelectric power plants were built just upriver of the city, due to the rocks which limit navigation further upriver. The state capital is now a thriving city, with private investments mainly in grain logistics.
